Gilgil spinners and weavers is located in Gilgil, Kenya. It was started in year 1983 with of producing quality hand woven products using locally available raw materials; wool and cotton. And to provide alternative source of income in the community which highly depended on farming.
Gilgil weavers proudly support a number of families through direct employment in the production processes and indirectly supply of raw materials. Over the years we have acquired great experience and expertise in production of high quality products.
Our products are taken at series of processes. For instance the best Romney marsh, corriedale, Hampshire or merino sheep wool is sourced locally from farmers in highlands of Kenya. It is then sorted, hand carded, spun and plied into different sizes. The skeins are then washed thoroughly, treated and dyed using vegetable dyes or chemical dyes into a variety tonal shades of colors, which are all color fast.
The yarn is woven into a variety of products which include carpets, wall hangings, blankets, shawls, throws and scarves.
Other products includes; (cotton) bed covers, pillow and throw cushions, table cloths, table mats and runners, curtains, hammocks, kikois, kikoi shirts, shorts & bags.
